One Foundation: An American Reformation Movement

C
alling for the restoration of the Protestant heritage of the American Church

"The Church's one foundation, Is Jesus Christ her Lord;
She is his new creation, By water and the Word;
From heaven he came and sought her, To be his holy bride,
With his own blood he bought her, And for her life he died."
(S.S. Wesley, 1864)

One Foundation calls upon all American Protestants to return to the faith our fathers, unchanged and unchanging, in the midst of a world of doubt, unbelief, and ungodliness.

The Protestant Reformation of the 16th century began as a movement of individuals, both laymen and clergy, whose faith and witness inspired thousands to restore sound, biblical Christianity to the people of all nations, based upon the truth of the Gospel according to God's Holy Word. Today, the gift of this godly heritage is being challenged by many factors and may not survive intact beyond this generation.

One Foundation acknowledges the witness of our Reformation forefathers in:

  1. proclaiming the headship of the Lord Jesus Christ over the Church which is His Body
  2. restoring to the people of God the Bible in their own tongue
  3. declaring the essence of the Gospel message of justification by grace alone
  4. establishing worship according to the norms of Holy Scripture: decency and order
  5. encouraging the spiritual growth and witness of every member of the Church

Thus, One Foundation Teaches:

THE SOVEREIGNTY OF GOD + that the Lord Jesus Christ alone is the Saviour of man (known by the Latin term Solus Christus),that man is saved by grace alone (Sola Gratia) through faith alone (Sola Fide), that Scripture alone is the authority for the teachings of the Church (Sola Scriptura), by God's sovereign will and to His glory alone (Soli Deo Gloria)

THE PLENARY INSPIRATION OF THE BIBLE + that the Authorized Version of the Bible, commonly called the King James Version, is the Word of God, true and trustworthy; that the plenary inspiration of the Scriptures was the foundation of the faith of the Protestant Reformers and that the King James Versions reflects this foundation above all other translations to date

THE DOCTRINES OF THE CHURCH + that the Thirty-Nine Articles of Religion, standing among the historic confessions of Protestantism such as the Augsburg, Westminster, and Heidelberg Confessions, as adopted by the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States in 1801, continue to serve as a confession of faith for American Protestant churchmen

THE POSITIVE IDENTITY OF PROTESTANTISM as the faith of the New Testament Church; the restoration of an orthodox, biblical faith for this age, an antidote to schism and confusion.

REJECTION of the errors of Romanism, Pentecostalism, and Humanism. We encourage all Christians to be able to answer for themselves the following basic questions pertaining to the faith: Who is the Lord Jesus Christ? What is the Bible? What is the Gospel? and Who/What is the Church?

One Foundation is established to promote the strength and growth of the local congregation in understanding the history of the Protestant Reformation, particularly that of the establishment of the Church of England, and the Protestant Episcopal Church in the U.S.A., and to give renewed identity and purpose to the laity whose spiritual heritage is the faith Protestant Reformers. To insure that our godly heritage is duly treasured for generations yet to come, every member of the local congregation is to be called to participate in the following:

Mission: to restore and promote the heritage and witness of the Protestant Reformation to those churches of North America whose faith was founded on the Doctrines of Grace, expressed by the English and Continental Reformers.

Means: providing laity and clergy with programs of identification, education and growth that will strengthen the foundation of belief and practice in the local congregation, based upon the Holy Scriptures and the historic confessions of the Protestant Reformation

Method: establishing in the local church essential teaching for all members regarding the foundation and history of the Protestant Churches, the Biblical doctrines set forth by our Reformation forefathers, and the practical applications of the same in the life of the 21st century Church.

Promotion: equipping all members of the local church with training and information that will enable them to share their Protestant faith with others, and to identify themselves as Protestant churchmen within the Christian community at large.

Programs: strengthening by means of preaching and teaching the development of personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ on the part of every individual, knowledge of God's Word written, and a deeper understanding of the essential teachings of the Reformers

Particulars:
  • promoting the study of the Holy Scriptures in the Authorized or King James Version, including the reasons for the retention of the AV/KJV as the best translation into English of the original apographs:
  • promoting the acceptance of the historic Thirty-Nine Articles of the American Church as the standard of faith for all churchmen:
  • promoting the Christian education of the laity, particularly the youth, equipping every member of the congregation to evangelize and teach:
  • promoting the dissemination of sound literature and other media to assist in education of the congregation and evangelization of the community.

AN INVITATION

One Foundation seeks fellowship and common cause with all like minded Christians who desire to maintain the heritage of the Protestant Reformation in their own traditions, according to their historic confessions. We seek the restoration of the foundations of the faith of the individual churchman, both clerical and lay, and those who have come from other Christian traditions; providing a means of identifying the faith of all Protestants and encouraging those who are being led in faith by the Holy Spirit in the Body of Christ.

We pray that you will join us...

"...Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is but one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; one lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of us all,, who is above all, and through all, and in you all...."
